Historical review

In 1939 was inaugurated the Cancer Institute institution dedicated to the diagnosis, care, treatment and observation of cancer patients. Later the institute takes the name of Institute of Radiotherapy and on May 19, 1952 by supreme decree it takes the name of National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases. In that year Dr. Eduardo Cáceres Graziani was appointed director of the institute and the institute is modernized and reorganized. By then, the institute was operating in its old premises on Alfonso Ugarte Avenue. The medical services were organized by departments, the Medical Resident was instituted, different specialist doctors from different hospitals were summoned, and young doctors were sent to specialize abroad.

It is this means of change and development that was produced is created the Peruvian Society of Cancerology in 1958, whose first president was Dr. Eduardo Cáceres Graziani the Society has contributed to the progress of cancerology, research, scientific, technology, exchange of specialized information and integrating its members. Thus, to date the Society has since its foundation has held XXI National Days in different cities, which have alternated for years with XVII Congress of Cancerology, with participation of national and international doctors.

Nowadays

At present it has its founding members, those who formed the company in its beginnings, taking an active part in their organization and those who signed the founding act. Honorary members, who due to their merits persons, professional prestige and dedication to the Peruvian Society of Cancerology, have been creditors to this distinction. Protective Members, those who have performed an ostensible act for the benefit of the Society. Full members, medical specialists who perform care and scientific work in specialized centers qualified in the care of cancer patients, from the country and abroad, those who have clinical and experimental research publications, those who have participated in the Society as members Associates for a period of three years. So from its inception to provide advice in the prevention diagnosis and treatment of cancer. It has linked its members and protected them in their professional rights to their national members, eighteen congresses and numerous national and international courses and symposia have been held. And today society counts among its national and international members doctors working in various centers around the world dedicated to cancer care.
